The book, Zen in the Art of Archery, by Eugen Herrigel has been hailed as perhaps the most influential book on Zen ever published in the West.  The expression “Zen in the Art of…” has become commonplace; a recent Google search on the term revealed 49,400, 000 hits. Yet, despite the prevalence of the term, few Westerners have had the opportunity to actually study kyudo, the “Way of the Bow” described by Herrigel, let alone plumb the depths of its relationship to Zen.   The International Zen Dojo of Wisconsin is pleased to announce this residential workshop on Zen kyudo.  It is open to anyone who is interested in studying kyudo as a Zen art.  No previous experience is necessary; however, participants who are experienced in Zen or kyudo are welcome.

Enso

“Internal training” refers to the practice of ki (energy) tests, breathing exercises (kokyuho) and meditation (meiso-ho), as well as the practice called kokyu dosa.  These training methods are meant to cultivate the psycho-physcial attributes that are necessary for the capacity to experience life in the present  or to live in the martial way.
