The JCC, in partnership with artist, g to y, is pleased to offer this special seasonal workshop on traditional Japanese New Year’s wreath making.
Learn how to make shimenawa, traditional Japanese New Year’s wreaths which are believed to ward against evil spirits and misfortune.

Cost: $50 per ticket
Materials: glue, artificial flowers, Obi (Kimono belt), plastic rods, Kimono fabric and other Kimono items
Tools: glue guns, scissors

g to y has been regularly hosting floral and Kimono fabric craft workshops as an instructor for about five years. The annual Kimono fashion show is a collaboration of local artists, chef and musicians and features various elements of Japanese beauty. In 2018, the Kimono fashion show took place at the opening reception of Kujira Japanese Art and Craft group exhibition in the Japan Information Center of the Consulate General of Japan in Chicago. The Kimono fabric scarf sewing workshop was hosted in Berwyn, IL in 2017.
